One of the things I’ve been working on the past few years is cleaning up my money issues. That includes everything from thinking I have to work really hard to make a lot of money, to taking care of old debt, to having a plan for paying off new debt, to plugging even the slightest money leak.
The truth for me is that I used to not pay attention to my money as much as I should have, so inevitably something happens where money MAKES me pay attention. It’s not usually...

4 Tips to Overcome Your Fear and Self-Doubt
Just recently I read a post on a small business start-up blog by an entrepreneur who was selected to deliver a TED talk. Despite knowing what an amazing opportunity this was, she experienced intense fear leading up to the event and even considered some crazy excuses to get out of her commitment.
She's not alone.
As a coach and mentor who has worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, I ofte...

"The number one priority of a business is to make money," I said in a workshop held earlier this year. That statement was met with complete silence - you could have heard a penny drop (excuse the pun). I watched with interest some facial expressions change and waited for a verbal response. One participant spoke up and simply said she disagreed. And if you are quick to think, "But it's not about the money for me" then let me help you understand something critical to your building a su...

One of the questions I get very often is "Kirstie, how do you manage your time effectively and get everything done? What is on my priority task list changes day to day and I'm running out of steam."
This is a very good question because one of the fastest ways to boost your business is to get out of the business of "busyness". In the beginning, you are doing everything yourself but in order to multiply your business (and not work crazy hours), you need to ge...

When you were a child, did your Mum ever say, “You become who you hang out with”? She wasn't the only one who knew this. Business philosopher, Jim Rohn said, "You are the average of the 5 people you hang around with the most." (When I heard that, I knew it was time to uplevel my professional network if I was to be successful in business!)
Red Flag:
Have you ever been excited about doing so...

When searching for a business coach or mentor, it’s a good idea to chat with two or three to see who best fits your needs and style. Most coaches offer a complimentary coaching session to help you make a thorough evaluation, so take advantage of the offer.
Ask yourself these questions before talking with a coach:
You are the master of your l...

Don't be scared off by the article title. Once you get going, I guarantee you will find it liberating...and maybe even exciting! I know we are in May and some of you may be thinking this article would be more suited to the beginning of the year. But the fact of the matter is, we ARE in May and only have 7 months left to achieve our goals (6 really if you consider December as a write-off for business!)
First of all, you're going to want to re-consider your goals for 2012 and re-evaluate ...

I know, I know, I've not blogged for two months which is breaking some kind of cardinal business marketing rule! But I'm not Superwoman and I just can't be everywhere at once and so some aspects of the business ball juggling need to be dropped. Yes, of course I have systems in place but I actually wanted needed a break from working IN my business so I could focus my energy to working ON my business. Something I teach my clients to do and well, even though I know all this...

I know what it’s like to feel defeated. In 2006 I would be curled up in bed, curtains pulled shut and unable to face the world. I had hit rock bottom – in a bigger way than I could ever have imagined. And I got "challenged" again mid-2011 when being diagnosed with Lupus. (You can read more about my story here.)
Despite that negative, nagging voice that reminded me this was my new com...

By guest author and contributor to Business Mums Survival Guide, Nancy Marmolejo:
I recently introduced my brother and his company to Twitter, and the first question asked was truthful and simple:
